This programme is the beginning of your electrical career that will help you gain confidence and skills needed for a potential apprenticeship.

You will learn:

Safe practices
Electrical legislation
Fault diagnosis
Installation of electrical equipment
from experts working in the electrical industry
practical skills and experience in real-world contexts.

When you have successfully completed the NZCEP programme you'll be able to begin your electrical apprenticeship with an employer and apply for the NewZealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Level 4 to become a qualified electrician with EWRB Electrical Workers Registration Board. You will also be able to pathway into other educational sectors of the electrical industry.

Admission requirements:

NCEA Level 1 in Mathematics, and English.
8 credits at NCEA Level 1 in English (4 in reading, 4 in writing)
The National Certificate in Educational Achievement (Level 1) [Ref: 0928] with Mathematics and English subjects; or equivalent knowledge and skills is a prerequisite for entry into programmes leading to this qualification.

Don't have NCEA? We also accept:

A relevant qualification at Level 2 on the NZQF or above or an equivalent qualification; or
Provide sufficient evidence to be eligible for special or discretionary admission
